PITCHING TO AGENTS

WRITE ON THE RED CEDAR 2017 OFFERS EXCLUSIVE ACCESS TO AGENTS

One of the central goals of Write on the Red Cedar is to help you go from aspiring writer to professional writer, and we have always believed one of the most important ways we can do that is to provide opportunities for you to get your work in front of agents.

We're doing it differently this year!

Rather than using our resources to fly a couple of agents here and offering only a limited number of pitching appointments for a small range of genres, we are trying something new that we believe will serve all our writers better.

This year, every person who registers for Write on the Red Cedar will get EXCLUSIVE ACCESS to a select number of literary agents representing a wide range of genres who have agreed to accept pitches from Write on the Red Cedar attendees. That's a chance to AVOID THE SLUSH PILE simply for attending Write on the Red Cedar.

This feature is included in the cost of your conference registration. No extra fee!

PLUS, you will automatically have access to PITCH PERFECT, a week-long, online, query-writing workshop during the week of Jan. 30, 2017 to help you get your pitches ready to send to those agents. Again...NO EXTRA FEE. That is included in the cost of your conference registration.

HOW IT WORKS

When you check into conference in January, you will receive a packet outlining each agent -- what they represent, what they're currently looking for, how to submit to them, the deadline for submission, and the secret Write on the Red Cedar code you must include in the subject head of your email in order to get out of their slush pile.

The names of the agents will not be released until conference to protect your exclusive access! But no fears. We have made sure to recruit a wide range of agents across the spectrum of genres in both fiction and non-fiction.

Rather than pitching in person -- as we've done at previous conferences -- you will send them your pitch (in whatever format they request). Your Write on the Red Cedar attendance guarantees that your pitch will be read and not get stuck in the dreaded slush pile!

It offers ALL the benefits of in-person pitching with none of the stress. PLUS, you don't have to pay extra!

PITCH PERFECT

Jan. 30 - Feb. 3, 2017

Your Write on the Red Cedar experience doesn't end when you leave East Lansing. We want to make sure the pitch you send to those agents is the best it can be, so we're hosting a week-long, online workshop on crafting an effective query.

This workshop is included in the cost of your conference registration. No extra fee!

Information on how to access this online class will be included in your agent packet at conference and will also be emailed to you after conference.

More details will become available in the next few weeks, so stay tuned!
