The First 5 Pages: Opening Scenes That Hook 'Em and Hold 'Em

  • Schuler Books & Music 2820 Towne Centre Boulevard Lansing, MI, 48912 United States (map)

FREE MONTHLY WORKSHOP

Your story is one in a million. No, really. There are millions of books to choose from and thousands of other aspiring authors flooding the inboxes of agents and editors. So how will you get them to give your book a chance? You have just a few seconds to hook agents, editors, and readers. In this workshop, you'll learn the most common mistakes writers make in their first five pages, how to fix them, and how to keep that page-turning momentum going in the rest of your manuscript.

ABOUT ERIN

ERIN BARTELS is a copywriter and freelance editor by day, a novelist by night, and a wife, mother, seamstress, painter, poet, and photographer in between. Her latest novel manuscript was a finalist for the 2015 Rising Star Award from the Women’s Fiction Writers Association, and her short story “This Elegant Ruin” was a finalist in The Saturday Evening Post 2014 Great American Fiction Contest. She has written several other short stories and is the author of The Intentional Writer. Erin is represented by Nephele Tempest of The Knight Agency. Her debut novel is currently out on submission, a fact she tries to ignore by keeping busy writing the next thing on her unending list of story ideas. Find her at www.erinbartels.com, on Facebook, or on Twitter @ErinLBartels.
